Faculty Development and Pedagogy
Given the practical orientation of Business School worldwide, and also mindful of its core mandate and values, UBS shall strive to attract, in its employment, very knowledgeable and competent men and women who have distinguished themselves and are the toast of relevant business vocations and management careers. The underlying philosophy here is that sixty (60) percent of staff shall come from the private sector, and forty (40) percent shall be recruited from the Academia, most on regular employment, and others on adjunct basis from related Departments, but must be persons who are at the peak of their professions, with relevant exposure in the world of industry, business and work, and are research oriented. Staff training shall be a regular feature of the activities of UBS. Those recruitment from the private sector on adjunct basis shall be referred to as Adjunct Senior Fellows and should be properly categorised and delineated.
Its pedagogy is clearly interactive, where the faculty (facilitator) leads and moderates the discussion or dialogue. It is based on the modular arrangement, and use of case method is a necessary companion in teaching. Attendance to, and participation in lectures are considered very important, as the school strives to ensure that all students for the Executive MBA/MPA graduate within 24 months deadline, and for other students, also to conclude their programmes as scheduled. Time is, for all practical purposes, considered sacrosanct.
In the interim, majority of the teaching staff in the Business School come from different areas in Management, Social Sciences, Arts, Engineering and Environmental Management. Others come with their vast experience in the private sector and the industry and are engaged as Senior Fellows of UNIZIK Business School. We also have Adjunct/Visiting Professors from the Lagos Business School and other Management Schools in South Africa and Europe. The list is attached.
