PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME
The underlying philosophy of the programme is to empower students with requisite workplace knowledge and skills, help them come to terms with, and understand better, employment relations. The programme is necessary in the light of the burgeoning industrial and trade disputes in work organisations in Nigeria, and offers pragmatic panacea while inspiring individuals and work groups with appropriate motivational and satisfactory models for work towards optimum productivity. The objective is to develop a new crop of experts in Human Resource Management. The M.Sc. degree is designed to accommodate the desire of Executive Management and Business Leaders who have interest in Employment relations to gain insights in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, while appreciating the intricate nexus between people and organisations. It gives the student the capacity to collect and analyse data on issues related to the workplace and interpret research in the field.
The programme is designed to equip students with the practical skills in settling disputes in workplaces, handling of employee grievances, staff recruitment selection, placement, appraisals and training, promotions, labour market Policy, collective representation etc. The programme is essentially multi-disciplinary.
